Abstract

This study evaluated the correlation between body fat percentage, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC) in university-level female volleyball players. Although BMI is widely used as an indicator of nutritional status, it has limitations as it does not differentiate between lean mass and body fat. Waist circumference, on the other hand, provides an estimate of abdominal fat accumulation, which is associated with metabolic risks. However, the results showed a low correlation between body fat percentage and both BMI and WC, suggesting that these indicators alone may not be sufficient to accurately describe body composition in this athletic population. Therefore, it is recommended to use body fat percentage as the primary measure and to consider BMI and WC as complementary screening indicators.
