Body Composition and Physical Fitness in Futsal Players from Riohacha

Authors

Abstract

Futsal is a sport that combines medium and low-intensity movements, with two teams of five
players, including the goalkeeper. The somatotype, which describes the physical shape of
athletes, is a key variable in body composition. In team sports like futsal, defining an ideal body
type is challenging, unlike in individual sports. Kinanthropometry, part of Sports Sciences, allows
for the analysis and quantification of athletes' functional physical characteristics.
The objective of this study was to determine the body composition and physical fitness of futsal
players from the Barranquillero Club. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted,
including variables such as age, weight, height, BMI, somatotype, and body fractionation (fat,
muscle, bone, residual mass, and skin), as well as tests of endurance, strength, and VO2max. The
results showed that the 14 players had an average age of 23.67±3.5 years, a weight of 71.7±10.9
kg, and a height of 173.6±6.4 cm. Their predominant somatotype was meso-endomorphic, which
is not ideal for this sport.
It is recommended to regularly assess body composition using anthropometric techniques and
BMI as an initial screening tool, while considering the limitations of these measurements.
